Michael Kirkbride

Michael Kirkbride studied Fine Art at Sunderland Polytechnic from 1977-1980. Afterwards he became a member of a studio group based in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne until 1992 when he moved to London to receive his post graduate degree in painting at the Royal Academy. In 2004 he was elected as a member of the NEAC (New English Art Club).
He describes himself as working within a “figurative vernacular.” He has received numerous awards including the Northern Arts Award in both 1987 and 1988, along with the Northern Arts Travel Award in 1990 and the Royal Academy Schools Travel Award in 1995. He has participated in many solo and group exhibitions in various galleries in London, Leeds, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Kentucky, Liverpool, Norwich, and Sunderland.
At the moment, he is working from a studio at home and is a senior lecturer at the London College of Fashion for the University of Arts.
