Michael Hill
British Painter
(b.1951) Plymouth
Michael began his studies in Graphic Art and Design at the College of Art in his hometown of Plymouth. He started work as a freelance illustrator before moving onto painting, which he now concentrates on full time. He mainly uses acrylics and watercolours as they best complement his talent and allow him to capture the mood and atmosphere of a setting. At present, Michael is a tutor of watercolour painting and is busy taking numerous workshops for different art societies.
Michael has said that he loves “the gentle and transient light which the English climate gives us; coastal scenes offer a wealth of subject matter with areas of richness and ever changing reflections. My aim is to convey a sense of place and atmosphere, perhaps leaving passages of the painting understated.”
His work has been exhibited widely in many galleries throughout the West Country and in London, such as in the Royal Institution and the Royal Academy summer shows. He is a member of the Plymouth Society of Artists and is President of the Plymouth Watercolour Society.
The Colomb Art Gallery, London is proud to exhibit a number of original works by the artist Michael Hill. Please contact the gallery for details or current work
