James Stroud
(b.1979) Bradford, England

Born in Bradford in 1979, James Stroud developed an interest in photography at the age of seven when he was given his first camera, with his older sister taking on the role of his first model. Stroud’s career as a photographer and image maker started at 15 when he won an international photographic competition. Soon after graduating from Newcastle Art College his professional calling took him to London. His current photographic assignments and art projects take him into many intimate and exclusive settings around the world; for him the human face and form remain key.
His first book was published in 2007 by Propaganda. It featured subjects from alternative lifestyles, with body modification and sub-culture at its core. In 2008 Stroud was selected to have a major solo show, a large scale exhibition running throughout St. Pancras International Station; the first exhibition in the stations 140 year history.
As part of a group exhibition his work has featured in the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize, National Portrait Gallery, London in 2008 and 2009. In 2010 a number of his images were acquired by the National Portrait Gallery, London for the national collection.
James is currently working on his second book and is based in his studio in Camden Town, London.

James Stroud's artworks are available at the 'Ultra' exhibition. |
