Charles A. Borrell
b.1964, Volos, Greece.
Charles Borrell’s recent work has assumed a fundamental
association with his most formative of memories. As a child growing
up in the mythologically enchanted foot hills of Mount Pelion
in the port city of Volos, Greece, his work is a visual translation
of the iconic history and of the rich environmental beauty of
his childhood horizons. To add essence and depth to his paintings
he incorporates natural elements, including sand, collected from
Greek’s stunning beaches.
Charles comments;
“I use these experiences and themes as my palette and as
a departure point from which to create contemporary and abstract
representations of seascapes and endless horizons. My visual language
and inspiration is derived from the essence of the atmospheric
changes and moods of the sea and its seductive relationship with
the sky where emotion seeks solace between twilight and the first
light of dawn.”
It is no coincidence that the essential themes of water, time
and space have coloured his life so profoundly, influencing his
creativity as integral components of his imagery.
Charles has held a number of exhibitions including solo exhibitions
in Greece and the Battersea Contemporary Art Fair, London.
