Sue Howells
Watercolour Artist
(b.1948) Birmingham
Recently voted the best selling female artist in the UK by
The Fine Art Trade Guild Sue Howells' art has recently become
a much sought after commodity. Known for her interpretation of
landscapes and buildings, she has developed a uniquely bold and
vivid style. Her blend of moody atmospheres and delicate abstraction
has won her numerous awards and sell out shows across the country.
Recently focusing on towns and their inhabitants Sue has created
a new world within watercolours. “On the Street Where You
Live,” one of her best sellers, the viewer is drawn into
the magically dark and translucent street heaving with wandering
locals.
Sue recently commented,
"I paint solely in watercolours aiming to produce pictures
which are both energetic and of a strong compositional value.
By using a great economy of brushstroke, I work as loosely as
possible, letting the paint speak for itself as watercolours can
be controlled but never bullied. I spend much of my time in Pembrokeshire
recording the moody winter atmosphere of the coastal towns."
Sue continues to broaden her range of subjects, maintaining her
national appeal and will be a well respected artist for the foreseeable
future.
