Peter Jarvis
Painter/Sculptor/Designer
British b. 1970
Peter Jarvis is a multitalented artist who takes inspiration
from his ever changing surroundings to produce works of vibrancy
and diversity. Recently, Costa Rica has been the source for inspiration
where he paints rural landscapes with a refined yet casual brush
stroke. His painting process is an intricate one, with all elements
taken into consideration. His paintings are regularly executed
in a natural environment where he uses all that surrounds him
from the physical to other elements such as sounds, lights and
smells.
His other body of work, in a multi-media style of painting is
so intriguing on the eye and stimulating to the mind that we attempt
to pull apart the techniques and textures embedded as we scan
the surface. The series of work named “Portal Patterns”
depicts the artist’s impression of “portals”
or “moments” when energy transforms into matter. They
resonate Jarvis’s experience in digital studios where animation
and photography were platforms for which he could exhume the impulses
given from flashing images.
Peter Jarvis graduated from the University of Creative Arts, Farnham
in 1995, where he then went on to Toronto, Canada for ten years,
carrying with him a succession of animated short films which were
viewed globally. In 2003 the rainforest of Costa Rica then became
his home for four years where he developed his passion for nature
and his medium turned to painting and sculpture. Jarvis has now
returned to England and looks forward to successfully developing
his future body of works.
The Colomb Art Gallery is now showing a number of original pieces
