During his childhood Johannes developed his natural talent, drawing the sailing ships near his home town. After his formal education he went on to study at the Leeuwardian Academy of Art, the “Vredeman de Vries Stichting”. The current trends, with a bias towards abstract art did not satisfy his natural talent for fine detailed work.

He therefore created a new direction for his work by drawing and painting in a style of his own. Although, still life paintings are his preference, he also paints landscapes and marine subjects. The longer he paints the higher his esteem for the old Dutch masters becomes; and without actually having a certain preference, Johannes Eerdmans work gives distinct evidence of his inspiration.
